York Light Orchestra is an amateur group who specialise in playing music from the shows, light instrumental
music, waltzes, marches and overtures. We have an extensive library of music ranging from
traditional to modern pieces.
We currently have around 50 members and meet to practice on a Thursday night at 7.30pm at Acomb Methodist Church, which on the West side of York. Directions to Acomb Methodist Church YO24 3BX The Orchestral year is divided into three sessions, starting in September and we aim to perform two or three concerts at the end of each session. These may be public or private venues, and are often in aid of fundraising for various local charities. We will finish for our summer break on 7th July and we will return on 15th September for our 2022/23 season. We welcome new members of all abilities.At present we are particularly interested in recruiting players of Percussion instruments, but we would also welcome anyone who can play an orchestral instrument.There are no formal auditions to join, and your only commitment is to attend as many of the rehearsals as possible, support our concerts and enjoy yourself.
